"Experts say most of us need about 8 hours of sleep a night, but half of us don't get it. And more than 80 percent of working women report exhaustion. According to the National Sleep Foundation's annual survey, in 2005 U.S. adults got, on average, just 6.9 hours of sleep a night. Many people don't assess how much sleep they need to function at their best; they just know they don't get enough. Each person's sleep requirement is different. Some people find that they only need 5-6 hours of sleep, while others need 10-11 hours for optimal performance. The average adult functions best with 7-8 hours of sleep a night; however, it is important to consider how much sleep you need on an individual basis.

Anything less than 7 hours sleep a night can raise your risk of getting cancer. Being active is the best, but if you don't get enough sleep then it almost erases the effect of being that active. Women who averaged less than 7 hours of sleep increased their risk of cancer by 25 percent. :D
